LAX, Burbank, Long Beach, or Orange County: Which Los Angeles Airport
Four airports, very different experiences. Which to fly into by where you are staying and which airline you prefer.

LAX
Every airline, every international flight, the most nonstops, and the worst traffic. Best for international trips, transcontinental premium cabins, and the West Side or Santa Monica.
Burbank (BUR)
Small, fast, and close to Hollywood, Pasadena, and the Valley. Southwest, Alaska, Delta, United, American, and JetBlue fly there, mostly to the West Coast and Southwest. Often cheaper than LAX from Las Vegas, Phoenix, Denver, and the Bay Area.
Long Beach (LGB)
Compact, mostly Southwest, convenient for Orange County's north and the ports. Limited destinations.
Orange County (SNA)
Best for Disneyland, Irvine, and the OC beaches. Served by all major carriers with short-haul nonstops and a few transcontinental flights. Fares can run higher than LAX; a curfew limits late flights.
The smaller airports trade choice for sanity
Burbank, Long Beach, and Orange County exist for one reason: to skip LAX's traffic and terminal crush. On the West Coast and Southwest routes they serve, they are faster end to end even when the fare is similar, because you park closer, walk less, and avoid the drive into the LAX horseshoe. The trade-off is choice — thinner schedules, few or no international or long-haul flights, and Ontario worth pricing only if you are staying in the Inland Empire. Use them when your route is short-haul and your destination is on their side of the metro; fall back to LAX when you need a specific airline, a long-haul flight, or a departure the local curfews would block.
Let where you are staying pick the airport
Los Angeles traffic makes the geography decisive. The West Side, Santa Monica, and the South Bay point to LAX. Hollywood, Pasadena, Glendale, and the San Fernando Valley are far closer to Burbank. Disneyland, Irvine, and the Orange County beaches belong to Orange County, with Long Beach a compact alternative for the north OC and the cruise port. A cheaper fare into the airport on the wrong side of the basin can cost you two hours and a surge-priced ride, so weigh the fare against the drive to your actual address before booking, and note SNA's and BUR's night curfews if your flight is late.
